I have a good friend that is soon to go into labor with her first child. Feeling some pangs of anxiety of the impending pain (and of course knowing that I am no expert and that everyone’s experience is different), she e-mailed me with questions concerning my experience with labor… here is one exchange:
Did your water break before you went to hospital, everytime I stand up I am nervous that mine will break somewhere embarressing!
Mine didn’t break until after I was at the hospital and it broke with a contraction. I however, had a pad down on our bed (under the sheet) for weeks before the baby was born in case it broke at night. The water breaking was alarming. It felt like what you would think a balloon full of water busting because it is being squeezed so hard would feel like. It is a BIG rush of WARM water. You might want to keep some towels in your car. In terms of it breaking somewhere embarrassing- when it breaks that will really be the last thing on your mind.
