...I would argue that it is sometimes the pain in things that make you appreciate them the most... it is my unconditional willingness to endure the middle-of-the-night feedings, the cleaning up of vomit, the screaming for no good reason, etc that makes me realize how much I love my child and love raising him...

Sense of Self

It is so funny to watch babies making friends. Zach already has a little best friend at school. When either of them arrive at school they immediately walk over to each other, give some version of a hug and then toddle off to go find an activity together. Needless to say, it’s precious. I also see Zach have aversion to certain people and/or kids.
My understanding is that this demonstrates a good sense of self as a baby. He knows that he is an individual and that he has choices with that he does and who he does it with. He also has confidence as a baby to choose and that won’t result in him being denied what he needs overall (love, food, shelter, etc). It may be a stretch but I can see that.
You know how they say you facilitate this in the early months (like first 6 months)??? Sit them in front of a mirror. Child development is, at times, a bit beyond me.
