...I would argue that it is sometimes the pain in things that make you appreciate them the most... it is my unconditional willingness to endure the middle-of-the-night feedings, the cleaning up of vomit, the screaming for no good reason, etc that makes me realize how much I love my child and love raising him...

Making Babies Poop

Oh my gosh- is it just my baby or does the exersaucer make all babies poop! I mean it is like more reliable than anything else in his life and has continued even as he has gotten older. I did some research on this to figure out why and found out that it is relatively common and many moms have given their exersausers cute names to indicate this use...
  • poopysaucer
  • jumperpoo
  • pooboo
  • exerpooper
Some sources indicate that this increase in a baby finding relief in this toy could be due to the jumping motion they usually do while in the exersaucer encourages movement of the poop through the intestines and thus out. I don't know about this as Zach has been doing it since even before he was really jumping in it. Other sources guess that it might be the pressure from the front and behind that is applied by the design of the seat. The world might never know.

I ran into another mom in Target once that was dealing with constipation and got into a poop conversation with her... here are the other things I have heard help constipation:
  • any food that starts with the letter 'p' (don't know if I believe it)- prunes, peas, pears etc
  • giving the baby some warm water to drink
  • tummy massage
  • fruit juice
  • BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast)
  • warm bath
  • karo syrup- evidently carries with it a risk of botulism (don't really know much about this)
Honestly, don't have much trouble with this. Our pediatrician said not to worry about infrequent or irregular stools- it is just a matter of different babies being different and really my baby never gave me too much cause for concern here. Beside, we could just put him in the exersaucer and it did the trick.
